San Francisco Ballet: East Coast Premieres

The San Francisco Ballet brings a bevy of exciting east-coast premieres created by the world's most famous choreographers to the Kennedy Center, to be accompanied live by the Opera House Orchestra. First appearing at their Unbound: A Festival of New Works, this collection is split into two top-notch performances by one of the world's most acclaimed dance companies. Program A features reflections on how technology and relationships intersect (Christopher Wheeldon), an homage to family (Trey McIntrye) and a take on Jung's view of the male-female mind (David Dawson), while Program B offers a meditation on the space between life and death (Edwaard Liang), evolutions into electronica (Justin Peck) and a narrative piece based on Edith Wharton's novel Ethan Frome (Cathy Marston). The San Francisco Ballet shows off its amazingly wide range here, with pieces in both pointe shoes and sneakers, and music ranging from contemporary vocal/pop/folk artists to classical.
